3 and 4 electrical works - more power

Arrows show the desks where power is to be installed.

In total we will be able to add power to 224 study seats currently without sockets (we’d previously estimated we could add power to 150 study spaces). Once this work is complete, in the next 6 weeks or so, the majority of desks in the Main Library will have power sockets, many with both plugs and USB ports.
We will have added power to 127 more study spaces on level 3 and 97 more on level 4 (during the Spring vacation we previously added power to a total of 92 desks on level 4).
The only seats on these floors that we can’t get power to are the smaller tables of 6 places that are located in the south west corners of both level 3 and level 4. There are 18 such study spaces on level 3 and 12 on level 4. Power can’t get routed to these tables because of the position of the furniture relative to the source of the cabling.
Overall the increase in power point provision in the building will be about 25%. It equates to around a 35% increase across the two silent floors.
During the beginning stages of this work, the next couple of weeks, there will be noise disruption from 5pm – 10pm, Monday-Friday, and we do apologise for this. Martyrs Kirk will remain open to PGT and PGR students as well as staff until 9pm during the week. For more information about this, please see our previous post about the work.
