Software Carpentry 27-28th November

On 27th and 28th of November the Library will be helping to run a Software Carpentry workshop for research staff and postgraduate research students.
The workshop will cover

  • The Unix Shell
  • Version Control with Git
  • Programming with Python

Full details are available on the workshop webpage and registration is via CAPOD’s Personal Development Management System.
It promises to be the biggest workshop at St Andrews since we started doing them regularly a couple of years ago. With at least one more CAPOD-organised workshop planned for next semester and interest from several Schools in workshops for specific groups of students, demand for Software Carpentry has never been higher at the University. This is great, but we’re going to need help to continue to meet demand.
In particular, we need helpers for workshops. While familiarity with the subjects being taught is useful, helpers need not be experts — patience and enthusiasm can be more useful than expertise. Anyone who has attended a workshop before will know how crucial the helpers are.
Please consider volunteering as a helper, particularly if you’ve been a learner at a previous workshop. If you are interested in helping, email [email protected] and let us know.
