RILM Abstracts of Music Literature
Compiled by the Répertoire International de Littérature Musicale, the RILM Abstracts of Music Literature  database is a comprehensive music bibliography covering traditional, popular and classical music.
First published in 1967, it contains over 800,000 entries – everything from Aaron Copland to Jay Z. It covers a vast array of subjects, including ethnomusicology, music analysis, composition, music perception and performance practice. In addition to abstracts of journal articles, books and reviews, it covers critical editions of music, bibliographies, videos, facsimile editions, ethnographic recordings, critical commentaries, technical drawings of instruments, and much more.
Key features:

  • There are indexes for names, subjects and instrument families which you can access using the buttons at the top of the screen.
  • In advanced search you can narrow your search to specific document types or topics, as well as by language, date and to items with full text.
  • This is an abstracting database which means that full-text articles are only available for some of the entries: if you don’t see a Full Text link or PDF icon, click on the green ‘Find Full Text’ button beneath the entry and this will check both our print and electronic holdings.
