Managing, sharing and archiving social science research data

This is a full-day workshop that will address questions on managing and archiving of social science research data. The workshop is designed mainly for ESRC researches expected to archive their data with the UK Data Service but it will also benefit other researchers.
The workshop topics are:
– Documenting and describing research data
– Storage, backup, transfer, collaboration and encryption
– Ethical and legal aspects of managing and sharing qualitative and quantitative sensitive data
– Preparing and archiving research data (file formats, supporting documentation, metadata, access level and licence, data review)
Charges:
UK–registered students £30
Staff from UK academic institutions/research centres, ESRC funded researchers, UK registered charitable and voluntary organisations, Government and public sectors staff £60
All other participants including commercial £150

Write a Data Management Plan

Current data management requirements of UK and EU funding bodies will be explained. During the workshop, tools and tips to write a data management plan will be provided alongside templates and examples. Costing and key issues to consider when writing a plan will be discussed. Participants will be able to develop a plan for their research project.
