Software Carpentry

Following the success of the two Software Carpentry workshops we ran last semester, we’ll be running another one on 4th-6th December in the Gateway, covering

  • The Unix Shell
  • Version Control with Git
  • Programming in R
  • Databases and SQL

Software Carpentry “has been teaching researchers the computing skills they need to get more done in less time and with less pain” since 1998. Read more on the workshop webpage, including details of pre-workshop drop-in sessions to help learners get set up. You can register via CAPOD’s PDMS, but hurry – registration only opened this morning and we’ve already had a number of people sign up.
We’d also like to find some helpers for the workshop – either the whole thing or just for part of it. Maybe you already know about R but want to learn about the other topics – you can take part in those topics as a learner and help out with the R lesson. If you’d like to be a helper, please email [email protected].
