Spaces for you to study
JF Allen Library in Physics building
There are many different spaces you can use to study both in town and on the North Haugh. The University has opened up a range of seminar and lecture rooms for you to use throughout revision and exam time – download this PDF for a list of these rooms. Below are details of the spaces managed by your University Library and available for all to use.
North Haugh
Library at the Gateway
Library at the Gateway is the basement-level of the large round building on the North Haugh which also houses the School of Management.
All students are welcome to study in this space. There are 96 study spaces, 36 PCs and 2 print, copy, scan machines.
It is open Monday to Sunday 9am until 9.30pm, you will need your ID card to swipe in after 5pm.

JF Allen Library
This Library is upstairs in the Physics building on the North Haugh.
All students are welcome to study in this space. There are 77 study spaces, 2 Group Study Rooms, 7 PCs, 1 search pc, 2 print, copy, scan machines, 1 print credit top-up machine, self service borrow and return machine, individual desk lamps.
It is open Monday to Friday 8am until 5.45pm (authorised card-holders have access until 10.30pm) and Saturday to Sunday 9am until 5pm.

Dr Ettie Stewart Steele Reading Room
This reading room is in the Chemistry building on the North Haugh.
All students are welcome to study in this space.
It is open Monday to Friday 9am until 5pm.

St Andrews town center
St Mary’s College Library and King James Library
King James Library
The King James Library is upstairs from St Mary’s College Library on South Street.
St Mary’s College Library
These libraries can be found on South Street, St Mary’s Quadrangle.
All students are welcome to study in both these spaces. Combined there are 57 study spaces, 7 PCs, 1 search pc, 2 print, copy, scan machines, individual desk lamps.
It is open Monday to Friday 9am until 7.45pm and Saturday to Sunday (from 1 Dec until 9 Dec) 9am until 5pm.

Main Library
This Library is on North Street.
All students are welcome to study in this space. There are 1,138 study spaces, 5 Group Study Rooms, 150 PCs, 12 search pcs, 15 print, copy, scan machines, 1 print credit top-up machine, 1 microform reader, 160 lockers, assistive technology room, self service borrow and return machines, 2 DVD players, 1 Blu-ray player, 1 VHS player, Cafe.
It is open to everyone Monday to Sunday 8am until 2am.
