New e-Resource – Drama Online

Drama Online, a new subscription taken out by the Library, offers a unique way to study the most performed and critically acclaimed plays, from 5th Century BC to the present day.

The collection features the lists of Methuen Drama, Arden Shakespeare and Faber & Faber, as well as production photos from the V&A, and is continually updated with the latest modern playwrights.

Drama Online introduces new writers alongside iconic names in playwriting history, and provides contextual and critical background through scholarly works and practical guides.

Scholarly notes, annotated texts, critical analysis and interpretations, theatre history and reference works on authors, movements, practitioners, periods and genres are included, together with performance texts, and acting and backstage guides.

  • the scholarly editions of The Arden Shakespeare
  • realist works from Ibsen and Chekhov
  • major foreign works in translation from Brecht, Pirandello, De Filippo,Wedekind, etc 
  • comic masterpieces from Oscar Wilde and Noël Coward
  • modern classics from Stoppard, Churchill, Ravenhill, Bond, Ayckbourn, Hampton, Friel, Russell, Osborne, etc 
  • the latest contemporary writers such as Polly Stenham, Katori Hall, D.C. Moore, James Graham, Rebecca Lenkiewicz and Lucy Prebble, and theatre companies Complicité and Filter
