Online LBG (Lexikon zur byzantinischen Gräzität)

The first 6 fascicles of the Online LBG (Lexikon zur byzantinischen Gräzität = Dictionary of the Byzantine Greek Language) have just been made freely available.  They cover the letters A-P and link into the texts contained in the TLG (Thesaurus Linguae Graecae) database, the digital library of Greek literature.  The LBG is the foremost lexicographical resource in Byzantine studies, covering more than 3,000 texts, mainly between 4th-15th Century A.D.  It records new words and word meanings emerging in this period, and offers almost complete coverage of the literature between c 900 - c 1200 (historiography, rhetoric, poetry, theological literature, selective scientific disciplines).
It can be used in different ways - for historical linguistics, philological, literary-historical (questions of style, attesting authenticity, dating), etc.  LBG bridges the gap between the dictionaries of Ancient and Patristic Greek on the one hand, and the Dictionary of Vernacular Greek Literature by E. Kriaras, on the other. 
Seven fascicles are available to date, with one more scheduled for 2016.  Further fascicles will be provided online three years after their printed publication.  Once completed, the dictionary will contain approximately 80,000 lemmata. The project is the result of the collaboration between the Lexikon zur byzantinischen Gräzität published by the Austrian Academy of Sciences (Die Österreichische Akademie der Wissenschaften) and the Thesaurus Linguae Graecae (TLG), based at the University of California, Irvine.
