17th October 1859:

Monday. the steamboat came to take in Coals again. I was at the winch. 

This map from 1838, from Luccock’s Notes on Rio de Janeiro, shows the wharves of the harbour, and customs house. The Philanthopist may not have been docked at a wharf as it was unloading into a steamboat, which could happen anywhere in the huge natural harbour formed by the bay.
