10th March 1860:

Saturday 10th. Went Fishing to the Middle Island. Guano 7 1/2 tons. Sailed the Jane Boyd of Aberdeen.

Not a bad life at the moment for Richard, a bit of sailing, a bit of fishing.

There’s an interesting emigrant diary of a voyage from Aberdeen to Quebec in Canada on board the Jane Boyd in 1855. She was a regular on the Scotland to Canada route until 1856, but doesn’t appear in Lloyd’s Shipping Register for 1859 or 1860, and it seems she has changed from passenger ship to guano carrier.
