Day 275. Flying fish and salt horse: a seafaring tale

1st May 1860:

Tuesday 2nd. Sailed the Desalabery, Finchley and Wressel Castle. We were washing down and reeving gear all day. the ship was in an awful mess. 

It’s not surprising the ship is in a mess after all those tons of guano have been dragged across it. And it sounds like scrubbing decks and other on board activities have been in abeyance while the crew have enjoyed themselves fishing and sight-seeing.
