Sunday 7th. All the men ashore on liberty. Richards and I aboard the Kensington.
Last few days of shore leave for the crew before the long sail home, so the men are making the most of the entertainments available in Callao, which again Walpole doesn’t think much of. He was writing in 1849 and Callao probably hadn’t changed too much by 1860.
Richard however seems to have settled for a quiet time with his friends on the Kensington instead of the gambling tables at the inn.
