Day 338. Flying fish and salt horse: a seafaring tale
3rd July 1860:

Tuesday 3rd. Washed decks. 8 AM set the T.G. Sails. Planning what we shall do when we get home, the larks we are going to have, and wondering whether the Kensington or us, will be home first. She being in sight again this morning, on our weather quarter. A Danish Brig also in sight which the Capt signalized, she proved to be the Leandre from California with dry hides etc for London. 79 days out. Lat - Long - not knowing.
Richard is definitely thinking of home now, and seeing friends, particularly from the Kensington. He doesn’t seem to have particular friends on board his own ship, and talks wistfully of the other ship.
