Thursday 9th. Had a smart shower at 6 AM, the drops being the largest I think I ever saw. another vessel in sight at daylight. 12 M bent M.T.G. Sail and set it. 4 PM squared the yards and hauled Jibs, and stay sails down, but the sails flapping against the masts, there being so little wind, the sun scorching hot, that We are nearly exhausted at the pumps, which are particularly attended. 8PM set F Topmast and Lower Stun Sail. The man at the wheel run the ship off two points so that we should get them set quicker, the Captain came upon the Poop, and asked him who ordered him to run her off, when he said, no one, and upon the Capt telling him not to do it again, he gave him, a good deal of his loose jaw, when (the Capt) called another man to the Wheel and told him never to come to the wheel again. Bent M. Royal. Commenced to rain at 11 PM and continued until 8 AM on - (Latitude 10″30″ N.)
