It would be hard to escape the phenomenon of George R. R. Martin’s book series, A Song of Ice and Fire, and the HBO series A Game of Thrones.

If you’ve missed it all, and want to know what all the fuss is about, or if you’re left wanting more, then check out the Library’s ‘What’s Read May Never Die’: A Song of Ice and Fire’ reading list.

The list is a treasure trove of materials from the books themselves, to articles, theses, plays, and audio-visual titles, all inspired by, or the inspiration behind the epic fantasy phenomenon.  All of this material is available to view, borrow, or watch via the University of St Andrews Library, our Library Special Collections, or at the Museum of the University of St Andrews (MUSA).

We hope the list offers some inspiration!

As our Game of Thrones inspired list demonstrates, reading lists are primarily used to provide access to academic resources, but can also be used to widen the range of resources used within a module to include audio-visual materials and webpages.

Online reading lists also incorporate the University’s Digitisation License which permits the scanning of print resources which aren’t available online.

Over the summer months Library staff will be busy creating, editing, and publishing reading lists. If you’ve got a module set to run next academic year and would like some help with your reading list, then get in touch. We’ll be happy to help!
