Access to Library collections and study space from 20 December
Work continues to improve the Main Library, however noisy work and drilling will pause during the revision and exam period. There should be no drilling after 8:30am each day. Once exams are finished, work will intensify to transform the entrance area on level 2 and further electrical work will take place to make the new heating and cooling systems operational.
From Tuesday 20 December until Sunday 15 January inclusive, the front entrance of the Main Library will be closed. During this time, access to browse and borrow collections in the Main Library using a side door will be in place on selected dates, details are below. This closure is to allow work in the foyer area, including installation of new access control gates and the new combined service desk.
On the dates listed below, you will be able to enter the Main Library through the side entrance. You will be able to go up to levels 3 and 4 so that you can browse and borrow collections. A fetching service will be available for any users who usually use the lift. Support will be available from library staff on site during these dates and times:
- Tuesday 20 to Thursday 22 December 12noon until 6pm
- Friday 23 December 9am until 12noon
- Wednesday 4 to Thursday 5 January 12noon until 6pm
- Monday 9 to Wednesday 11 January 12noon until 6pm
- Saturday 14 to Sunday 15 January 12noon until 6pm
A help point, including the IT Service Desk, collections of recalled items, and access to pick up and consult Inter Library Loan items, will be available at St Mary’s College Library. Study space will be in the Thomson Reading Room in Martyrs Kirk, the King James Library and Butts Wynd in town, and the JF Allen Library and Library at the Gateway on the North Haugh. Check the Library spaces webpage for opening times and location maps.
Library sites will be closed from Saturday 24 December to Tuesday 3 January inclusive, except the Thomson Reading Room, which will be open from Wednesday 28 until Friday 30 December, and the PC classrooms and postgraduate lounge in Butts Wynd, which continue to be open 24 hours 7 days. Access to online collections will continue throughout.
All libraries will be open as usual in time for teaching to begin again on 16 January.
