Main Library summer works

Level 1 of the Main Library will be closed for a two-week period from Monday 5 to Sunday 19 June, to enable final works to take place. The rest of the building will remain open during this time, with access to the collections unchanged.

While the new space on level 1 has been well used since opening, it was always planned that a number of finishing touches would be carried out once the exam period was over. While much of this work will be ‘behind the scenes’, we will be installing some new automated doors to improve access and reduce noise, adding further seating carrels creating even more study space, and putting up white boards in the group study rooms.

Elsewhere in the Library, planning has begun for the installation of a new and improved ‘intelligent’ Hold Shelf, as well as lockers for loanable laptops, on Level 2. Work on these will commence over the summer period, and we’ll have more information soon. Also during summer, we’ll be moving some collections down to the new shelving on Level 1, giving us space to re-install some additional seating on Level 4. All of this will keep us busy as usual, but we’ll endeavour to keep disruption to a minimum, so please bear with us while we make these improvements.
